For preparation of a crossword for learning and knowledge checking (Step 2: Create or modify a word list), there are two standard, rarely used, standard EclipseCrossword options available:
Disabling the function of whole entry revealing
This option removes Solve button. The sequence is as follows: → Options → Web → Do not allow cheating. It should be noted that, when this option is selected, the entry definitions are not visible in the source code.
Disabling the possibility to check the crossword more than once
The sequence is as follows: → Options → Web → Only allow the user to check the puzzle once. It should be noted that, when this option is selected, it is not possible after clicking on Check puzzle button to solve further a crossword.
Next extension: Insertion of links into entry definitions
The link to references is represented by Tip string. Exemplary references are as follows:
PDF document with an optional page specification, e.g. http://www.kidl.org.pl/aktyp/ustawy/USTAWA%20o%20%20zoz.pdf#page=15
Web portal, e.g. http://www.rejestrzoz.gov.pl/RZOZ
YouTube video, e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bl1bOe8uuP8
Sound file, e.g. classification.mp3
Custom text file, e.g. info.html
Insertion of links is facilitated by the program developed according to my guidelines and available at the following link:
The program is created by Mateusz Cieciura.
First, a web page URL should be inserted (with the use of a text editor) at the end of each record in a file containing entries and clues (file with .ecw extension). Basing on this file, the program creates a file, in which URLs are replaced with links with optional onclick="return TipCurrentWord();" element. This element is necessary to consider the fact of a tip usage in a crossword solution score.
For example, URL: http://www.rejestrzoz.gov.pl/RZOZ is converted into the following link:
TipNOTE: The address must be preceded by ONE space and cannot be followed by ANY space.
